Betty Cargile, longtime MVHS member dies

Written by Nan Miller, Posted in News

Betty and her husband, Cliff, lived in many states during his military career, and rescued animals in all of them, most notably, in Montana, where Betty was associated with a rescue organization for many years.

Cliff's retirement from his second career, with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, brought them to Menifee, where their service to the community and to animal welfare continued as before.  Since Betty's resignation from the Board of Directors of MVHS, during the last four years, Betty and Cliff have personally rescued many cats and paid for spay/neuter and/or other veterinary costs,  before placing them for adoption or returning them to the feral colonies from which they came. In the last year alone, prior to her illness, Betty transported 19 cats from a feral colony in Perris, to Ramona, to be spayed or neutered, some with the aid of vouchers, which members of MVHS helped to secure, but the rest at the expense of the Cargiles.  While Cliff assisted with repairs to the property of the woman who was feeding the cats, Betty provided much of the food and bedding they required.

Besides placing many cats for adoption into other, loving, forever homes, Betty and Cliff, themselves, have provided a safe, loving haven for nearly two dozen cats over the last nine years.
